30 years in the computer business! I have a long and varied work  history; I put all the experience to  good use in my present work so it  allows me to trace problems and  fix faults that other people might  abandon.  I enjoy troubleshooting  and don't like to let problems get  the better of me.  This experience working with  computers means that I've often  seen a problem before – what  seems like an impossible situation  to my client might in fact be  relatively straightforward to fix.    My IT background is also a  significant asset when supporting  clients working with their everyday  IT tasks as the chances are that  I've done it, seen it or heard of it  somewhere in the past! In relation to website design, I  have had plenty of exposure to  various business situations in the  past and this knowledge comes in  very useful when advising clients  about their website projects,  computerising their business  processes and making use of the  internet. Work History 1997 –  2011 SELF EMPLOYED  Aquila Computer Services (Scotland) 2004 – 2010 IT TECHNICIAN (Part Time)  Lochaber High School, Fort William  All aspects of user support, software support, network support, hardware  troubleshooting and PC repair. 1995 – 1997 CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROJECT ENGINEER   I was responsible for delivering on-site and helpdesk support to a major  national house-building client.  I played a large part in the testing and  phased roll-out of tailored systems to the estimating, purchasing, project  management and sales departments requiring frequent travel throughout  the UK to install systems and train staff.    1993 – 1995 IT TRAINING SUPERVISOR   Design and delivery of training packages for computing courses suitable  for a wide range of adult learners. 1987 – 1993 FREELANCE COMPUTER PROGRAMMER  I worked freelance on short-term contacts for software acceptance testing  of systems for medical laboratories, power stations and air-traffic control  applications. 1981 – 1986 COMPUTER PROGRAMMER  Initially I worked on technical documentation of operating systems then  moved to the projects department as part of a large team programming  data collection and analysis systems for hospital laboratories. My final role  was as customer liaison during project delivery, acceptance testing and  staff training. 1980 BSc Computer Studies
